GLEN CARBON - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that northbound and southbound Illinois 157 and the east leg of Illinois 162 in Glen Carbon are scheduled to reopen to traffic, weather permitting, Monday, Oct. 26.
The west leg of Illinois 162 will remain closed as construction continues on the new road and bridge.
The $17.6 million project includes realigning Illinois 162 to create a signalized four-way intersection, bridge construction and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. Completion of the overall project is expected by July 31, 2027.
During the continued closure, marked detours will be in place for Illinois 162 traffic:
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and plan alternate routes ahead of time. Drivers should expect delays on the alternate routes and be prepared to adjust their route as needed. Please reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
