First Air Force Reservists to Transfer Into Part-Time Work Roles

When fully implemented, the PMA will enable the Space Force to create a new model of service that integrates currently serving Guardians and Air Force Reservists serving in space-focused career fields into a unified service that offers both full- and part-time work roles.

"The integration of these talented Air Force Reservists is an important step in the evolution of our service," said Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman. "They bring a wealth of experience and expertise to our force, and we're excited to welcome them as Guardians."

Guardians in part-time work roles will be known as Guardians on Non-Sustained Duty (GNSD), and they will be embedded in the day-to-day institutional and warfighting-enabling missions of the force. The participation requirements for GNSDs will be a minimum of the equivalent of 36 days (48 IDT periods and 12 AT days) per year to have a "good year" toward retirement.

Air Force Reservists who accept their part-time work role assignments as GNSDs will begin to transfer into the Space Force this summer.

The list of individuals selected for transfer can be found on the Space Force Transfer page. Individuals on the select list may decline transfer into the Space Force in a part-time work role up until receipt of official transfer orders.
