WNC is offering a fall semester class that will help students prepare for opening their own childcare business.
For early childhood educators who have dreamed of opening a childcare center or turning their experience working with young children into their own business, Western Nevada College is offering a course this fall designed to help turn that idea into a plan.
BUS 198: Entrepreneurship in Early Childhood Education combines two important skill sets: caring for and educating young children and understanding what it takes to successfully operate a childcare business.
The course will introduce students to the fundamentals of starting and managing a high-quality childcare program, including business planning, licensing, budgeting and marketing.
Designed for current early childhood professionals as well as those interested in entering the field, BUS 198 provides an opportunity to explore the business side of early childhood education and develop practical knowledge that can help aspiring entrepreneurs move toward opening or managing a childcare program.
The course comes as WNC continues to expand opportunities for students interested in Early Childhood Education. WNC currently offers DETR-supported scholarship funding through Fall 2026 for eligible new and current students interested in working in or advancing their careers in the ECE field.
BUS 198 is also being promoted through The Nevada Registry, the state's professional development and career-support resource for Nevada's Early Childhood Education and Care workforce.
BUS 198 will meet Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., Aug. 31 through Dec. 19, with both online and in-person participation available at WNC's Carson City campus.
