Exercise programs to strengthen bones, balance offered in Juneau

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service in Juneau is offering two exercise programs to help increase bone density.
Sarah Lewis will lead the B3 (Better Bones & Balance) program, which offers a mix of strength and power training and group fitness activities. Participants will learn a research-based exercise and education program proven to maintain or increase bone density.
Every participant must apply for the program and be accepted based on a diagnosis of osteopenia, osteoporosis or risk of future bone loss. Contact Lewis at [email protected]or 907-455-2010 for more information.
Two sessions are offered:
B3 at Tongass Fitnessis for those who want to become comfortable working in a gym with weights. Participants will meet from 8-9 a.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Oct. 27-Nov. 21 at Tongass Fitness, 5322 Shaune Drive, Juneau.

B3 with Bandsis for those who want to learn workouts to do independently at home. Participants will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Oct. 27-Nov. 19 at Dzantikʼi Heeni Middle School commons, 1600 Renninger St., Juneau.
