Water Main Break Closes Intersection of South Benbow Road and Perkins Street

The 500 block of South Benbow Road, from East Washington Street to Cunningham Street, and the 300 block of Perkins Street, from South Booker Street to Logan Street, is closed due to a water main break that caused a sinkhole. The sinkhole caused no injuries or personal property damage. Approximately 10 water customers are without water service.

City crews are onsite until repairs are completed and the lanes reopened, which is expected by 6 am tomorrow, August 12. See the map below for the impacted area. Signs and traffic cones are in place, and motorists are urged to use alternate routes to avoid the area.

If you notice discoloration or cloudy water coming from your tap after the repairs, run cold water for a few minutes through a faucet without an aerator, such as an outside spigot or the bathtub, until clear.

For water and sewer emergencies, including main breaks and sewer stoppages, or changes in taste, odor, or color of drinking water, call Water Resources 24-hour Dispatch at 336-373-2033.
