On April 23, 2026, Elmedin Konaković, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, met with William David Womble, the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the regional coordinator for the IOM in the Western Balkans.

Minister Konaković welcomed Mr. Womble and wished him a successful mandate. He reflected on the existing cooperation and expressed hopes for its continuation in the future.

The interlocutors exchanged views on current migration trends, priorities, and challenges in migration and asylum management. Minister Konaković highlighted the need to intensify cooperation with European Union agencies and institutions, including FRONTEX, EUROJUST, and EUROPOL.

The Minister also expressed gratitude to the IOM for its ongoing support to Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in strengthening the legislative and management framework. He underscored the important role of the IOM in assisting temporary reception centres (TRCs) during periods of increased migrant influx.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the IOM, aimed at enhancing institutional capacities and coordinating responses to migration challenges in line with international standards and the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
