WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement regarding President Trump's State of the Union:
"Since taking office, I have been laser-focused on finding bipartisan solutions to bring down the cost of living, make our communities safer, and address the issues that matter most to Long Islanders.
"Unfortunately, hyperpartisanship and gridlock have paralyzed Congress and Washington and led to skyrocketing costs for groceries, rent, and everyday goods. Health care costs have soared as leadership in Congress refuses to side with the majority of Americans and extend ACA premium tax credits that made health insurance more affordable. Tariffs and unnecessary trade wars have driven up prices even more at a time when families can least afford it.
"It is also critical that we preserve American lives and restore law and order to our streets. That means removing Secretary Noem for her failed leadership at DHS and working in good faith to pass meaningful reforms of ICE.
"The American people needed a message of unity and calls for a nonpartisan path to address these historic challenges. I was disappointed that we didn't hear that tonight.
"It is not a time for politics as usual; it's a time for bipartisan solutions to tackle these issues. I remain committed to working with anyone, in Congress or the Administration, to make life safer and more affordable for Nassau County families."
