Governor Phil Scott Announces Leadership Appointments

Montpelier, Vt - Governor Phil Scott today announced leadership appointments: Lyle Jepson as commissioner of the Department of Economic Development and Nick Grimley as deputy commissioner of the Department of Economic Development.

"Growing the economy has been one of my top priorities since being elected governor," said Governor Phil Scott. "I believe Lyle's decades of experience as an educator, as well as Nick's proven track record supporting the business community, will serve Vermonters well."

Lyle Jepson, commissioner of the Department of Economic Development
Lyle has been the Executive Director of the Chamber and Economic Development of the Rutland Region since 2020. Previously, his career spanned several roles in education, including 30 years in public and technical education across Vermont.

"It's a great honor to join the Scott Administration and the Department of Economic Development," said Jepson. "The Department has a dedicated and professional team focused on supporting our state. There is a clear goal of strengthening our rural economies while advancing the Governor's priorities of expanding housing opportunities, reforming education, improving public safety, and enhancing affordability for Vermonters. I look forward to the work ahead as we continue to meet the needs of our businesses and communities together."

Nick Grimley, deputy commissioner of the Department of Economic Development
Nick Grimley has served in multiple roles at the Department of Economic Development since 2017, most recently as the Director of Entrepreneurship and Tech Commercialization. Before that, he co-founded LaunchVT, which helps early-stage businesses launch and grow.

"I'm grateful to Governor Scott for the opportunity to continue serving Vermonters in this new role," said Grimley. "The Department's mission to improve the economic well-being of Vermonters by fostering growth, opportunity, and innovation is one I'm deeply committed to. Our work connects businesses and organizations to the financing, workforce development, and market opportunities they need to create high-quality jobs and strengthen Vermont's economy."

Both Jepson and Grimley will begin their new roles on November 3.
