Commissioners acknowledge October 2025
as Dyslexia Awareness Month

FREEHOLD, NJ - The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners recognized October 2025 as Dyslexia Awareness Month during a Workshop Meeting held on Oct. 23.

A certificate of recognition was presented to Amanda Colannino, Director of the Colt Plus program at Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in Lincroft, for her leadership in supporting students with dyslexia.

Dyslexia is a learning difference that affects how the brain processes written language, influencing an individual's ability to read, write, and spell. It is estimated to impact one in five people, making awareness and early support critical to student success.

"The Colt Plus program is designed for highly motivated students who have the cognitive ability to succeed in a college preparatory curriculum, but who may face challenges that make it difficult to reach their full potential without support," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. "We thank the Colt Plus program leaders for their dedication and for providing such an important resource to students at CBA."

"Recognizing October as Dyslexia Awareness Month is especially meaningful to my family, as our son has been diagnosed with this learning disability," said Commissioner Erik Anderson, liaison to the Monmouth County Superintendent of Schools. "Early identification, along with strong community and educational support programs like Colt PLUS, are essential to ensuring every child has the tools they need to succeed."
