Hansen Dam to serve as a Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zone
LOS ANGELES - Today, Mayor Karen Bass and Hope the Mission hosted a special Shine LA, where hundreds of volunteers and celebrity guests made more than 10,000 meals for the residents of Hope the Mission's 33 shelters, led a neighborhood cleanup, and more. This Shine LA was hosted at the Hansen Dam, which will serve as one of the Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zones this summer. Shine LA previously partnered with Hope the Mission for Meatball Mayhem, where volunteers made thousands of meatballs for Angelenos experiencing homelessness. Following her State of the City Address, Mayor Bass is encouraging all Angelenos to get involved and help prepare the city to welcome the world. B-roll and photos available here.
"In partnership with Hope the Mission, Shine LA brought hundreds of volunteers together to get the Hansen Dam ready to welcome Angelenos for the duration of the World Cup," said Mayor Bass. "From a park clean-up, community run, block party to making 10,000 meals for Hope the Mission residents, we are celebrating the best of Los Angeles. I want to thank the volunteers who came out today and look forward to even more Angelenos visiting the Hansen Dam to watch the World Cup this summer."
"We're so thankful for the Mayor's support and for being able to work alongside Shine LA to lift up and support people experiencing homelessness. A massive thank you as well to partners like Backbeat BBQ, Dave Grohl, Shamrock food services, and the amazing volunteers who are showing up to serve warm, nourishing meals to our neighbors in need," said Rowan Vansleve, President of Hope the Mission. "When we come together like this, it makes our community stronger and reminds us that Los Angeles is at its best when we look out for one another with love, dignity, and respect. I'm proud to keep my 50 Marathons in 90 Days challenge going to shine a light on Hope's mission and the important work we do every single day."
Mayor Bass is committed to hosting a "Games for All" so all Angelenos can participate in the upcoming major events. The Hansen Dam will serve as one of the Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zones that will expand the reach of the games, hosting live match viewing parties and additional interactive experiences for residents and visitors. By creating meaningful experiences in communities across Los Angeles, Angelenos will get to fully experience the nearly 40-day tournament
