Donations to American Red Cross

The City of Taunton would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many residents and nonprofit organizations who have inquired as to how they can help support the individuals and families displaced by the fire at Taunton Gardens on Hopkins Road this week.

On the day of the fire, immediate assistance was provided by the Taunton Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and theAmerican Red Cross, ensuring that those affected had access to emergency support and resources during an incredibly difficult time.

In the days following the incident, the City has remained in consistent contact with the owners of Taunton Gardens and the Human Services Department and the Taunton Housing Authority have been working with displaced individuals to secure both short-term and long-term shelter options. Once all families are stably relocated, additional support for food, clothing, furniture, and other essential needs will be coordinated.

Many residents have asked how they can help. At this time, the City is not accepting donations of clothing or other physical items, as the displaced individuals currently have no place to store them and assessments are still underway to determine specific needs.

Those wishing to make a monetary donation are encouraged to support the American Red Cross, which provides critical assistance to fire victims and those affected by natural disasters. Please note that donations made to our local Red Cross chapter will be used within the southeastern region; however, they cannot be earmarked specifically for the Taunton Gardens fire victims.

We are deeply grateful for the compassion and generosity shown by our community. We will continue to provide support to the families displaced by the fire. We are deeply grateful to the Taunton Fire Department, Fire Departments from surrounding towns who provided mutual aid, Taunton Police Department, TEMA, Human Services and the Red Cross. Our community shines when we work together to take care of our residents!
