Extreme DREAM Project home on Warren Street revealed!

(January 9, 2025) The second home rehabilitated through the City of Davenport's Extreme DREAM Project is now complete and listed for sale. Extreme DREAM is the fourth iteration of the DREAM Project, a Davenport initiative to invest in the City's heritage neighborhoods. The owner of Top Notch Real Estate, LLC, bought the house at 1216 Warren Street for an extensive renovation with matching funding through Extreme DREAM.

The house had been vacant for about four years when Alex Bock bought the property. Originally built in 1912, the house was not well-maintained and had significant code violations, but Bock could see beyond the disrepair.

"The exterior brick work stood out to me right away," said Alex Bock, Extreme DREAM Project participant. "This home had been quite grand in its time. It has a lot of character and a lot of life left."

Bock said he took great care restoring and modernizing the brick, while also preserving it, with the bright white paint color. The layout of the original four-bedroom, one-bathroom home was redesigned into three bedrooms and two bathrooms, including a primary suite, and upstairs laundry room. Utilizing $100,000 in Extreme DREAM matching funds, the project took about nine months to complete. The house is now listed for sale for $229,000.

"The success of Extreme DREAM relies on the vision of people like Mr. Bock," said Susanne Knutsen, City of Davenport Economic Development Manager. "Returning vacant properties into owner-occupied homes brings new life and economic diversity to our heritage neighborhoods."

Launched in March 2023, the Extreme DREAM Project was created to rehab vacant and abandoned homes into owner-occupied residences in the Gaines Street corridor. Extreme DREAM offers a dollar for dollar match up to $100,000 to purchase and rehabilitate a property in the project area. Davenport has allocated $2.1 million for the Extreme DREAM Project.
