Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović congratulated Ireland on taking up the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, noting that it comes at a time when enlargement policy has once again taken a central place on the European agenda.
He stressed that Irish Presidency will be of particular importance for continuing a credible and predictable enlargement policy, given the renewed political momentum within the European Union and its growing commitment to the accession process of candidate countries.
He highlighted that Montenegro is entering a decisive phase of its European integration process, with the firm objective of completing accession negotiations by the end of 2026.
In the coming period, it will be crucial to translate existing political commitment into concrete progress. We believe that the Irish Presidency will make an important contribution to sustaining this momentum and further advancing the enlargement agenda in a results-oriented manner, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
He emphasized that Montenegro remains committed to implementing reforms and to intensive cooperation with EU Member States and institutions, adding that close cooperation during the Irish Presidency will be important for continuing Montenegro's successful European path.
