Salem City Council Meeting Support Information

Due to anticipated higher-than-normal attendance at the Salem City Council meeting, the City is providing additional information to help community members navigate the meeting.

Sign Up for In-Person Testimony

Sign-ups for testifying will open at 5:00PM and close at 6:00PM PDT.

More information on Testifying at Tonight's Meeting

  • Public testimony is scheduled to take place after Special Orders of Business. As Council may adjust their agenda, this may change. Please be ready to speak when called.
  • The speaking order for testimony:
    • those that have signed up to speak in-person through the digital sign-up form,
    • those speaking in-person signed up on the paper sign-up sheet,
    • then those signed up to speak remotely.
  • Testimony will be limited to 3 minutes per speaker. The Presiding Officer will end your testimony at the conclusion of your speaking time.
  • If you choose, you may instead submit written testimony for an agenda item to [email protected]. Written testimony is added to the public record and provided to City Council to assist in their discussion and decision-making.
  • Appropriate decorum is required. Please respect and maintain the ability for Council and those testifying to do so. Individuals being disruptive may be asked or required to leave.
  • Please note that new rules are in effect for City Council meetings. Signs are allowed in the meeting. Not allowed: sticks, poles, or other objects that may injure others.

If you are a community member experiencing a disability, please see a City of Salem staff member to make your request for reasonable accommodation.

Some requests the City can provide during meetings:

  • Using a hand microphone instead of the podium microphone
  • For those with mobility concerns, speaking from your seat.
  • Wheelchair seating

Parking Information

It is possible with high attendance at tonight's City Council Meeting, the Salem Public Library Parkade may become full.

Additional Parking

  • Pringle Parkade - 399 High St SE

  • Street Parking - Additional parking may be found on side streets near the library. Please follow all marked signs and rules.

Meeting Space and Overflow Rooms

Due to a potentially large audience, overflow space may be utilized this evening. The overflow space will stream the meeting and a second space will be available for testimony for those that are directed to the overflow area. For your safety and security, please follow all staff instructions.
