City of Brampton celebrates National Public Works Week 2026: Rooted in Service, Powered by Community

​​Honouring the public works employees who keep Brampton moving

BRAMPTON, ON (May 12, 2026) - The City of Brampton recognizes May 17 to 23, 2026, as National Public Works Week (NPWW). This year's theme, Rooted in Service, Powered by Community, recognizes the essential role public works professionals play in supporting safe, sustainable and connected communities.

To mark NPWW 2026, the City will host a series of staff events celebrating Public Works and Engineering staff, including a flag raising, Bus Pull, Truck Rodeo, school tours, a fundraising barbecue for the United Way of Greater Toronto and more staff recognition events. Wellington Street West (Main Street South to Park Hill Court) in downtown Brampton will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 20 for the bus pull event. The City of Brampton's Public Works and Engineering department helps keep the community safe and healthy through a wide range of essential services. From maintaining roads and sidewalks to snow clearing and winter operations, repairing potholes, installing and maintaining streetlights and traffic signals, and supporting road safety programs, including school crossing guards and emergency response, these professionals are integral to residents' daily lives and the city's continued growth. Key responsibilities include:

• Managing 50,000 streetlights and more than 600 signalized intersections.
• Maintaining over 4,100 lane-kilometres of roads and approximately 2,000 kilometres of sidewalks.
• Supporting stormwater infrastructure to protect homes and natural areas from flooding.
• Delivering road resurfacing, pothole repair, signage and pavement marking services.
• Providing seasonal services such as snow clearing, street sweeping and leaf collection.
• Leading road safety initiatives and supporting emergency response.
• Overseeing building construction, engineering and facility operations.
