UTMB Health Education Center Hosts Annual Disaster Day Simulation to Prepare Future Health Care Professionals and First Responders

November 14, 2025 5:00 a.m.

The University of Texas Medical Branch will host its annual Disaster Day on Saturday, Nov. 15, bringing together students, faculty, and first responders for a large-scale simulation. This year's scenario recreates a chemical plant explosion, giving participants hands-on experience in triage, emergency response, and inter-agency coordination. The interprofessional training helps prepare future health professionals and emergency crews to work together during mass casualty incidents.

Media are invited to attend and capture the action between 9:10 and 10 a.m. at the UTMB Health Education Center in Galveston.

Disaster Day helps prepare future health care professionals and first responders to work together during large-scale emergencies. The event promotes teamwork, communication, and critical thinking under pressure while strengthening partnerships among Galveston's emergency agencies and regional colleges.

Participants include students, faculty, and staff from all five UTMB schools, along with partners from Galveston College EMT Program, College of the Mainland EMT Program, the Galveston Police Department, the Galveston Fire Department, Galveston EMS, UTMB Poison Control, and UTMB Campus Police.
