Statement from ARTC regarding level crossing incident in Western Victoria

Australian Rail Track Corporation is working with Victoria Police, emergency services and rail safety authorities following a fatal collision at a level crossing in western Victoria this morning.

At approximately 10:15, a vehicle collided with a freight train at the Reddies Road level crossing at Cressy.

Tragically, two people in the vehicle lost their lives. ARTC extends its deepest condolences to their families, loved ones and communities at this difficult time.

ARTC is working closely with the train operator to provide support. The train drivers were not physically injured and are assisting police with their enquiries.

ARTC personnel remain on site alongside emergency services, and the scene has been secured by police.

The Office of the Chief Investigator, Transport Safety and the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator have been notified, and ONRSR representatives will be attending the scene.
