Attorney General Nick Brown today issued the following statement after a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration to fully fund Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits by Friday, November 7. The Trump administration has since appealed that ruling.
"A federal judge affirmed what we have said repeatedly: the Trump administration must follow the law and distribute much needed SNAP benefits that support feeding kids, seniors, and people living with disabilities in Washington," Brown said. "It's time for the administration to stop dragging their feet and offering half-measures."
More than one in ten Washingtonians rely on SNAP benefits to buy groceries and feed their families.
This ruling comes after an unlawful attempt by the Trump administration to only partially fund the SNAP program in a way that created chaos and further delays for states. Brown joined a separate lawsuit against the Trump administration for illegally suspending SNAP benefits.
