Training helps Lao Social Security Organization officers to expand digital social security services and improve access for workers across the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

VIENTIANE (ILO News) - The International Labour Organization (ILO), through the ILO/China Partnership Programme on Social Protection, is supporting the Lao Social Security Organization (LSSO) to strengthen digital social security services and expand access to social protection, particularly for workers in the informal economy.
A nationwide training workshop on the utilization and promotion of the LSSO Mobile Application was held in Vientiane on 29-30 June 2026, bringing together social security registration officers, contribution collection staff and technical personnel from across the country.
The initiative builds on the launch of the LSSO Mobile Application in December 2025 under the partnership between the LSSO and the ILO/China Partnership Programme. The application enables users to register for social security, access account information and make contribution payments online, making social security services more accessible, efficient and user-friendly.
The workshop marked an important step in strengthening the LSSO's digital service capacity and supporting the nationwide rollout of the application. Participants enhanced their ability to use, promote and support the platform, enabling them to assist workers and employers with online registration, contribution payments and access to social security services. They were also prepared to serve as trainers and focal points for promoting the application in their respective provinces.
Opening the workshop, Bouahom Phommachan, Interim Director General of the Lao Social Security Organization, highlighted the importance of strengthening staff capacity to accelerate the organization's digital transformation.
"This training is designed not only to strengthen the technical capacity of our staff in registration, contribution collection and accounting, but also to equip them to become trainers and promoters of the LSSO mobile application. By enhancing the capacity of our provincial offices, we can deliver better services and expand social security coverage to more workers across Lao PDR."
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Tian Feng, Project Manager of the ILO/China Partnership Programme on Social Protection, emphasized the role of digital innovation in making social protection more accessible and inclusive.
"The LSSO Mobile Application represents an important milestone in Lao PDR's digital transformation. By simplifying registration and contribution procedures and improving access to social security information, the application brings services closer to workers, particularly those in the informal economy. We hope all participants will become not only proficient users of the system but also trainers and promoters who will help expand digital social security services across all 17 provinces."
Throughout the workshop, technical experts from the LSSO Information Technology Department demonstrated the application's core functions, including registration procedures, contribution payments, account management and troubleshooting. Participants also exchanged experiences on operational challenges and identified practical strategies to raise public awareness and encourage wider use of the application. Proposed solutions included facilitating registration and contribution payments in provinces with and without Lao-Viet Bank branches.
The recommendations developed during the workshop will help inform the next phase of the application's development and support the continued expansion of inclusive, digital social protection services across the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
