Public input meeting set for COLT railbanking project

(COLUMBIA, MO)- The City of Columbia is seeking public input regarding the proposed railbanking of the COLT Railroad from Rogers Street to East Brown Station Road.

Two open house-style meetings are planned at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, in Conference Rooms 1A-1B. The public will have the opportunity to learn more and offer feedback at one of these meetings:

  • Thursday, Feb. 12, noon to 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 12, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The City of Columbia has owned and operated the COLT Railway from downtown Columbia to Centralia since 1987. Businesses along the 2.5-mile section of track from Rogers Street to East Brown Station Road have not used rail service for years.

Railbanking is a process established by the federal government in 1983 to preserve out-of-service rail corridors and infrastructure for future reactivation.

Anyone unable to attend the meeting can still provide feedback online at BeHeard.CoMo.gov.

For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 573.874.7460.
