UL Solutions Warns of Counterfeit Safety Marks on Fire Extinguishers

NORTHBROOK, Ill. - Dec. 19, 2025 - UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science, today issued a warning that certain POLAR dry chemical fire extinguishers bear unauthorized UL Marks, have not been evaluated to relevant safety standards to demonstrate their performance and reliability, and should be removed from service immediately.

These fire extinguishers, specifically labeled EXTINTOR DE 20LB and classified as 6A 80B: C, bear the UL Mark, and labeled as "According to: UL 299 & UL 711 CLASSIFICATION 6A 80B:C". The fire extinguishers bearing the unauthorized Marks are offered for sale in Panama and may also be available in other areas.

"The UL Mark is the trusted symbol of safety, signifying that a product has undergone rigorous, independent testing and certified to established safety standards," said Karine Johnfroe, vice president and general manager of the Built Environment group at UL Solutions. "When unauthorized marks are used, it creates a serious and potentially life-threatening risk."

Fire extinguishers are essential life-saving devices, and their performance must be evaluated. The UL Solutions testing and certification process is demanding and involves comprehensive evaluations of the extinguisher's construction and reliability under real-world fire conditions. This process is intended to demonstrate that the device can operate correctly and safely in an emergency.

Counterfeit marks undermine this trust and can turn a critical safety tool into a dangerous liability.
