HM Government of Gibraltar wishes to advise that the works being carried out on the Gibraltar side of the frontier have been completed ahead of schedule.
As a result, the night-time traffic diversion at the frontier via the Eastgate Commercial gate, which had been due to remain in place until Wednesday 1 July 2026, is being lifted early. With effect from tonight, Saturday 27 June 2026, the diversion will no longer be in operation.
Following liaison with the Spanish police, who have confirmed that vehicular traffic may now return to the normal entry and exit lanes, all traffic reverts to the usual 24/7 border crossing route. Drivers entering and exiting Gibraltar should once again follow the standard frontier lanes at all times, including overnight.
Pedestrian access at Four Corners, which was unaffected throughout the works, remains unchanged.
The Government thanks the public, frontier workers and the wider community for their patience while the works were under way. It also thanks the contractors and the Technical Services Department, whose hard work and close coordination delivered the works ahead of schedule, and the Spanish authorities for their cooperation in enabling the prompt return to normal arrangements.
The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo KC MP, said:
"I am delighted that the works on our side of the frontier have been completed ahead of schedule. Having liaised with the Spanish police, who have confirmed that vehicular traffic may return to the normal entry and exit lanes, the night-time diversion via Eastgate is now lifted and all traffic reverts to the usual 24/7 border route. I want to thank everyone during this period for their patience and understanding, the contractors and our Technical Services Department whose hard work delivered these works ahead of time, and the Spanish authorities for their close cooperation throughout."
