City of Lancaster Receives $450,000 RPOSD Measure A Grant to Advance New Park Planning and Design

Lancaster, CA. March 27, 2026 - The City of Lancaster has been awarded funding through the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) Measure A Program to support the planning and design of a new community park near the Avenue J freeway on-ramp.

Lancaster was selected as one of only 48 agencies across Los Angeles County to receive funding through a highly competitive process, part of one of the largest investments in parks and open space in the County's history.

The award, backed by a $450,000 investment, will support early planning and design efforts for the future park, helping bring new outdoor space, recreation opportunities, and community gathering areas to Lancaster residents.

"This investment demonstrates the reach and impact of Measure A," said Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger. "From our foothill communities to our valleys and coasts, these projects will strengthen neighborhoods and create more spaces where residents can connect with nature and one another."

This project represents a key step forward in expanding access to safe, high-quality parks in Lancaster. Parks play a critical role in supporting physical and mental well-being, improving air quality, and creating stronger, more connected neighborhoods.

"This is a meaningful win for Lancaster families," said Mayor R. Rex Parris. "Expanding access to quality parks means more opportunities for our residents to stay active, connect with one another, and enjoy safe, welcoming outdoor spaces close to home."

The Measure A program, approved by Los Angeles County voters, continues to fund projects that address park access gaps and bring more green space to communities across the region. This latest round of funding includes more than $78 million awarded countywide to support park planning and construction projects.

As planning moves forward, the City will continue working to bring this new park to life, creating a future space where families can gather, children can play, and the community can connect.

About Measure A and RPOSD:

The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District is a special district that collects property tax revenue and grants it to cities, nonprofits, and other agencies for new and improved open space, parks, and programs. Measure A was created following the 2016 Los Angeles County Park Needs Assessment, the most comprehensive study of park access ever conducted in the United States. The study found that millions of residents lacked access to safe, nearby parks. In response, voters overwhelmingly approved Measure A, creating a dedicated funding source for parks, open space, rivers, trails, and recreation throughout Los Angeles County. Since its passage, RPOSD has granted more than $225 million to cities, nonprofit organizations, and park agencies to acquire land, develop new parks, and improve recreational opportunities across the County.
