Off-Patent Pharmaceutical Products Exempt from Recent Tariff Order

CHPA appreciates the Administration's decision to exempt off-patent pharmaceutical products and related ingredients from additional tariffs, which includes the vast majority of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. As policymakers work to strengthen U.S. supply chains and advance national security priorities, it is equally important to preserve patient access to safe, effective, and affordable self-care options like OTC medicines.

The White House and the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) increasingly recognize that OTC medicines play a vital role in the U.S. healthcare system, helping millions of Americans manage everyday health needs, avoid unnecessary doctor visits, and reduce overall healthcare costs. In doing so, they support a more efficient, accessible, and resilient healthcare system.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Administration on policies that promote the health of all Americans while ensuring that families can rely on the full range of personal healthcare options they use every day.
