GDOT monitoring weather in east-central Georgia

Augusta, Ga. - The Georgia Department of Transportation is actively monitoring weather forecasts and working in close coordination with the National Weather Service to determine potential impacts of a system that may bring wintry precipitation to District 2 (east-central Georgia) over the weekend.

Based on the latest forecast, crews are not scheduled to brine routes on Saturday. Current forecasts suggest the temperature will not drop low enough during the event for precipitation to freeze to the road surface. Additionally, current forecasts suggest any wintry precipitation on Sunday would be preceded by rain. Rain limits the effectiveness of brine treatment.

Our plans are based on current weather reports and are subject to change. Georgia DOT will continue to monitor the weather.

All district maintenance personnel are on call and prepared to salt, plow, or brine roads as needed.
