WVDOH assisting city of Hurricane following bridge closure

Officials for the city of Hurricane have asked the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) for help after a bridge over Hurricane Creek was closed following a routine bridge inspection.

WVDOH bridge inspectors inspecting the city-owned Lexington Estates bridge over Hurricane Creek on Thursday, December 18, 2025, discovered problems in the bridge support beams that forced the closure of the bridge. For vehicles, there is no other way in or out of Lexington Estates.

Hurricane city officials have asked the WVDOH for help installing a temporary bridge until the span can be replaced. WVDOH engineers are expediting the temporary bridge installation.

WVDOH bridge inspectors frequently conduct inspections on city-owned bridges at the request of municipalities.
