Applications Now Being Accepted for the Spring Session of the MNPD's Community Police Academy that Begins March 3

Chief John Drake is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 56th session of the MNPD's popular Community Police Academy which will be held at the new Southeast Precinct, 2467 Murfreesboro Pike, on Tuesday evenings for 12 weeks beginning on March 3 and running through May 19. Nashvillians interested in learning about the operations and law enforcement strategies of their police department are cordially invited to apply for this free and very informative course.

Classes for the spring 2026 CPA session will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. February 25. Applications can be completed on-line by logging onto Request Type: MNPD Community Police Academy Participant Application.

Participants will learn about police work through the perspective of a variety of guest speakers, including members of the police department's specialized areas. There will be presentations from the TITANS Unit (which focuses on violent gun criminals), Entertainment District Unit, Youth Services, Domestic Violence, Criminal Investigations and Traffic Divisions. In addition, there will be opportunities to visit several MNPD facilities, including the crime laboratory, training academy and gun range, Community Safety Center, and the chance to ride along with an on-duty officer.

"I'm excited that the spring session of our Community Police Academy will be held at the new Southeast Precinct," Chief Drake said. "Participants will be welcomed into this state-of-the-art facility each week to see and hear how the men and women of our police department are working to keep Nashville safe."

Each participant should commit to attending at least 10 of the 12 weeks, be a Davidson County resident/business owner at least 18 years old, and have no arrest record. While completion of the course gives residents an understanding of the workings of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, it does not make a participant a certified law enforcement officer.

Community Police Academy graduates total 2,188 since the program began in 1995.
