Vice-Minister Grigaitė-Daugirdė: it is necessary to strengthen Europe’s security and resilience and ensure full support for Ukraine

On 10 June, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė, met with Sirpa Rautio, Director of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).

The meeting addressed topical issues in the field of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in preparation for Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Vice-Minister underlined that the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy and unified support for Ukraine were among the strategic priorities of Lithuania's Presidency, while human rights were a horizontal principle and should be integrated into all policy areas.

The priorities of FRA's activities and the agency's potential contribution to the EU agenda during the Presidency were also discussed. Both sides exchanged views on possible areas of cooperation to strengthen the EU's resilience based on respect for human rights.
