Homicide – Arrest Update: C24-243600

On November 14, 2024, Karl Earl SETTEE (31) of Winnipeg was arrested on the strength of a warrant for Manslaughter in relation to the death of Shawn Douglas THOMAS (33).

Members of the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offenders Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU) were actively looking for SETTEE when he was located at approximately 12:00 p.m. in the area of Higgins Avenue and King Street.

He was detained in custody.

As previously released:

On October 18, 2024, at approximately 5:35 p.m., The Winnipeg Police Service responded to a call for service regarding an unresponsive male in the 800 block of College Avenue.

Attending officers provided emergency medical care before the male was transported to hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced deceased in hospital.

The deceased victim has been identified as 33-year-old, Shawn Douglas THOMAS. THOMAS was a member of Peguis First Nation and resided in Winnipeg.


The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and family notifications have been made.
