SGMC Health EMS Earns Top Recognition for Pediatric Transport Safety

SGMC Health Emergency Services has earned the Safe Ride Champion Designation for Pediatric Transport Safety, a recognition awarded to EMS agencies that demonstrate exceptional commitment to safe, high-quality transport for children. The designation recognizes agencies that train all personnel in pediatric transport safety, integrate best practices into operations, and prioritize child safety in every emergency response.

Though based in Region 8, SGMC Health EMS was invited by the Region 5 Trauma Advisory Committee to attend this training. By extending their efforts across regional lines, they demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the safety of their smallest patients.

To achieve this elite recognition, SGMC Health EMS sent representatives to the Regional Train-the-Trainer session and trained 100% of their EMS personnel, all 97 team members, in pediatric transport safety. They also integrated Safe Ride guidelines into agency operations, training, and continuous quality improvement processes and combined pediatric transport practices with their annual Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) Course to ensure crews are fully prepared for every pediatric response.

"This accomplishment reflects our team's dedication to the highest level of care," said Emily Brown, Director of EMS and Trauma. "Protecting children isn't just a responsibility, it's a calling, and we're proud to help lead the way for EMS agencies across Georgia."

This achievement represents one of the first steps SGMC Health EMS has taken to pursue its Pediatric Readiness Designation for both the Emergency Department and EMS operations. Their cross-regional collaboration highlights the potential for EMS agencies statewide to prioritize pediatric safety through shared training and best practices.
