Tempe This Week Oct. 27, 2025

Volunteer crews from Team Rubicon, a national veteran-led disaster relief organization, are in Tempe this week to help residents clean-up areas most impacted by the Oct. 13 microburst.

They come with chainsaws, ladders and a plan. They are highly-skilled people here to help. About 30 volunteers a day are working in several teams across Tempe.

These volunteers-many of them military veterans and retired first responders- are cutting and stacking downed trees and large debris for pickup by Tempe Public Works.

They have chosen to work in the places with the most urgent cleanup needs based on ground assessments and site surveys they have done. The group has prioritized helping residents who may not have the ability or resources to do the work themselves - including those who are elderly, disabled, veterans or from low-income households. They have a full week of work already planned.

Their name for the mission here? Hayden's Heroes.

Indeed they are.
