Artemis Marketing: Team Activity Day Ideas: A Picturesque Lancashire Golf Course | Member News

Artemis Marketing: Did you know there there is a National Golf Day, on the 10th of May 2025? Nor did we.

In the spirit of that, along with Mental Health Awareness Week on the 12th to 18th May 2025, business owners in East Lancashire may be looking for innovative, different ways to strengthen team bonds, boost employee morale, and improve mental well-being.

As such, despite it not being the first thought that comes into many minds, there's no better time than now to consider a retreat to a golf course as a morale-boosting team activity.

We've highlighted events where businesses in the area have taken part in charity golf daysover the last several months, and there's no reason to believe golf can't be simply a good activity for your team to enjoy as well.

Why consider golf for a business team day out?

Lancashire is one of the most beautiful areas in the entire country, with many of the rolling hills and seas of uninterrupted green providing the perfect backdrop.

As the weather improves and summer is fast approaching, getting out in the sunshine can be a tremendous mood enhancer. A day on the greens and playing a game of 18 with your team can offer something enriching and valuable, both personally and collectively.

Golf is an inherently social sport (81%of Gen Z golfers worldwide prefer the social aspect of the game), where golfers can network in a relaxed and tranquil environment. There is an element of physical activity involved without overexertion, wherein colleagues navigate individual and collective challenges. Plus, it can be the ideal reprieve from being confined to an office and a screen all day.

For business owners and managers, golf offers rare moments of reflection, which is something increasingly precious in a world that never seems to switch off. Walking between holes offers gentle and non-strenuous exercise while allowing minds to reset and be removed from the world of work for a brief spell, often leading to those breakthrough moments that we all crave.

Making golf accessible to all

However, it's important to remember that everyone in your team has different preferences. While some may relish the idea of getting outside, others may not be comfortable playing a full 18 holes. Conversely, some may prefer the idea of playing golf, but confidence or accessibility may be an issue.

Inclusivity is key to creating an enjoyable, rewarding, and beneficial team event, so these alternative approaches can be considered:

  • Organise a golf clinic: Many courses offer group lessons where beginners can learn the basics of golf, while more experienced players tackle a more appropriate challenge for their skill level. This allows everyone to benefit at their learning level.
  • Try a 9-hole course instead of the standard 18: Half the traditional course length means half the time commitment, and something on which to build if new to the sport.
  • Explore golf simulation systems: Companies like Golf Swing Systemsoffer indoor experiences that can replicate the feel and challenge of playing, with the scenic beauty of Lancashire courses, but in your own business environment. This can be ideal for keen golfers who may want to play and practice during the colder and wetter seasons, as well as for those who prefer a more controlled and convenient introduction to the sport.

Golf offers mental and physical exercise

With Mental Health Awareness Weekfalling in May, it's worth noting golf's particular benefits for improving mental clarity and removing brain fog. The combination of gentle exercise, natural surroundings, and focused attention has been shown to reduce stress hormones and increase endorphins. For business leaders carrying the weight of decision-making, a few hours of respite in the sunshine with people you like and care about can be utterly transformative.

Lancashire's golf course treasures

Our county boasts some of the finest and most picturesque golf courses in the whole of the UK. Each course has a distinct character and charm, combining to make a perfect environment for teams of all shapes and sizes looking to soak up clement weather, get out of the office, and try something new and exciting.

Consider these courses as an idea for your next team day out:

Pleasington Golf Club

Chorley Golf Club
With its stunning setting and panoramic views, Chorley provides an accessible option for teams seeking both challenge and beauty. Its diverse layout ensures everyone will find something to enjoy, and the surrounding trees provide mental clarity in spades.

Planning your golf team event in Lancashire

Most Lancashire courses offer corporate packages that include green fees, catering, and sometimes meeting facilities, so you can tick off several tasks at once. Booking several weeks or even months in advance is advisable, especially for larger groups and as summer gets closer with each passing day.
