Cheeseman Road in St. Ignace temporarily closed starting July 6 for I-75 bridge work

ST. IGNACE, Mich. - Cheeseman Road in St. Ignace, Mackinac County, will be temporarily closed for the safety of motorists starting Monday, July 6, during placement of overhead bridge beams and decking on the southbound I-75 overpass at Cheeseman Road. Traffic will be detoured to US-2. One lane will remain open in each direction on I-75.

Cheeseman Road is expected to be reopened to traffic with a temporary traffic signal by Thursday, July 9.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $9 million to rebuild both I-75 overpasses over Cheeseman Road, including deck replacement, bearing replacement, substructure repairs, beam end repairs, steel cleaning and coating, and approach work. This is a two-year project, with work on northbound I-75 already completed in 2025 and southbound I-75 finishing this year.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 76 jobs.
