A Week in the Life of Gilbert’s Solid Waste & Recycling Team

Post contributed by Gilbert Solid Waste & Recycling.

It's National Waste and Recycling Workers Week! The Town of Gilbert services 85,000 homes weekly for trash and recycling. The Gilbert Solid Waste and Recycling team, consisting of operators, inspectors, customer service representatives, container maintenance personnel, environmental outreach specialists, and administrative staff, works together to provide essential services to our community.

So, what does a typical week look like for the Gilbert Solid Waste and Recycling Team?

  • Our operators start their day as early as 4:30 in the morning, collecting trash and recycling and using heavy equipment to pick up bulk trash.
  • The inspectors are also out in the field bright and early. They walk through residential streets, checking trash and recycling bins and bulk piles to ensure a smooth pickup for our operators. If there's something where it shouldn't be, our inspectors leave a notice to inform our residents. These notices are strictly educational and involve no fees.
  • Our customer service team is available at 6:30 AM to address questions or concerns and ensure smooth operation.
  • The container maintenance crew works hard to ensure all containers are in proper working condition and placed in the right location. Even within the trash industry, we take pride in our appearance!
  • Our outreach team can be found at town events and educating residents in schools and neighborhoods on being more sustainable.
  • The administrative staff plays a vital role in overseeing the big picture and keeping our office running smoothly.

Every team member is necessary to provide Gilbert residents with the best possible service.
