Two Men Arraigned on Charges Related to Shooting That Injured Toddler in Village of Sloan

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Shannon Rose, 19, of Cheektowaga, was arraigned this morning before Cheektowaga Town Justice John J. Wanat on one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class "D" violent felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Class "E" felony).

It is alleged that on the morning of Sunday, July 20, 2025, a toddler was injured by gunfire during a domestic incident involving adults inside of a residence on Lackawanna Avenue in the Village of Sloan. The victim, a 2-year-old child, was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital for treatment.

Rose is scheduled to return on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. He was held without bail. If convicted of the highest charge, Rose faces a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.

Additionally, District Attorney Keane announces that Marcus Oluwa, 20, of no permanent address, was arraigned this morning before Buffalo City Court Judge John P. Feroleto, on one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class "C" violent felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class "D" felony).

Oluwa is scheduled to return on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. Our office requested that the defendant be remanded. Bail was set at $50,000 cash or bond. If convicted of the highest charge, Oluwa faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

DA Keane commends the Cheektowaga Police Department, Buffalo Police Department and New York State Police for their work in this ongoing investigation.

The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Timothy J. Garvin and Frank A. Strano of the Major Crimes Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
