Foreign Ministry Statement on the February 22 Operation

On February 22, the Ministry of National Defense, the National Guard, and the Security Cabinet coordinated a successful law enforcement operation to detain one of the most wanted criminals in Mexico and internationally, Rubén "N," El Mencho.

The operation triggered a series of incidents, all of which were brought under control by federal security forces in coordination with local authorities. The Mexican government's priority is to preserve and strengthen the security of all Mexicans and foreign nationals who live in or visit our country.

As the Security Cabinet reported this morning, peace and security have been restored in the regions affected by yesterday's operation in the state of Jalisco.

Once again, Mexico has demonstrated that its security strategy is advancing and the rule of law prevails, safeguarding the wellbeing of everyone on national territory.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commends the courageous work of the members of the Ministry of National Defense and other security forces, and honors those who tragically lost their lives in yesterday's operation.

The above is particularly important given the attempts to spread disinformation, which serves no one and undermines the accuracy and integrity with which this entire operation has been conducted. We therefore urge the public to rely on official channels for information at all times.
