Gosar Recognized for Defending the Life of the Unborn
This week, the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued its National Pro-Life Scorecard for the 118th Congress and I am proud to say I received an A+ rating. The score takes into account votes and actions for every member of Congress for 2023 and 2024. You can click here to view the scorecard, and compare my rating with others in Congress. The right to life is the foundation upon which all other rights are built - that's why the tragedy of abortion is the greatest human rights issue of our day. I am once again proud to have earned the highest score, and I will continue to defend the lives of children in the womb and fight to defeat Democratic abortion extremism, this includes stopping hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion and working with the Trump Administration to roll back the extreme pro-abortion actions of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Gosar Votes to Protect Women and Girls in Sports
It is amazing to see how far, and how fast, cultural matters can decline. Before discussing my vote, take a moment to look back just 10 years. For our entire lives, women competed against women and men against men. Then, somewhere along the Obama Presidency cracks in this structure started to appear. Fast forward to today and we have men across the country putting on a dress and claiming they are women. All to be winners in a sport they were poor to mediocre in when competing against their own gender. All that is coming to an end.
This week, I joined every Republican in the House of Representatives in voting for H.R. 28, The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act,legislation requiring all schools receiving federal funds to uphold the original meaning of Title IX and keep biological men out of women's sports.
This legislation comes at a crucial moment for women's sports, where girls and women in schools and institutions of higher education across the country are being forced to compete against biological males. H.R. 28 establishes clear standards to maintain the integrity of women's athletic competitions at all levels.
Commonsense tells you that men should not be competing in women's athletics, yet all but two Democrats voted against this bill. It is outrageous that the NCAA refuses to address the injustice of transgender athletes in sports. It is completely unfair to the women who have spent years of hard work and determination to be asked to compete with an athlete born as a male.
Last Congress, we also voted on this legislation however it was never brought to the floor by the liberal Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer. This time the legislation will head to the Senate for a vote, and soon to President Trump's desk for signature.
House Passes the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act
Also this week, I joined all Republicans in the House of Representatives in voting in favor of the H.R. 30, the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act,which declares illegal aliens who have committed sex offenses or domestic violence as inadmissible and deportable. In addition to deporting illegals convicted of sex crimes, the legislation would also deem illegal aliens who admit to domestic violence to be inadmissible in the United States. While the legislation passed with bipartisan support, 145 Democrats inexplicably voted against a bill that would deport an illegal who committed sexual assault. We have witnessed the endless violent crimes committed by these lawbreakers, yet Democrats cast their lot in their favor to the detriment of the victims. There is no justification.
Gosar Announces House Committee Assignments for the 119th Congress
This week, it was announced that I would once again serve on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability for the 119thCongress. I will also continue to serve as the Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
Arizona's Ninth Congressional District is rich in natural resources, and I look forward to once again undertaking the important work of the Natural Resources Committee relating to American energy production, mineral lands and mining, fisheries and wildlife, public lands, western drought, wildfires, water, desalination, irrigation and reclamation.
I further look forward to restoring government accountability that has been absent the past four years under the Biden regime's unchecked rule. I am thankful to be working for the American people and I am very pleased to be returning to both these important committees.
It's Mail Time!
I receive thousands of letters each week and I appreciate hearing from everyone. Here are a few letters I received this week:
Danitza J. from Surprise, AZ writes:
I urge you to vote NO on the Laken Riley Act. This bill cynically manipulates a personal tragedy to criminalize and demonize immigrant communities. It would subject immigrants to prolonged, indefinite detention without bond based on mere allegations of petty offenses and gives individual states standing to override the executive branch's federal immigration policy. The bill is nothing short of a blank check for discriminatory and anti-immigrant state attorney generals to unleash chaos on the immigration system.Laken Riley's death is a tragedy. But exploiting that individual tragedy to demonize all immigrants is bad policy. I urge you not to succumb to a political ploy that manipulates a tragic act to demonize and criminalize our immigrant communities.
✍ Danitza, I hate to break it to you but I in fact voted YES on the Laken Riley Act. I wrote about it extensively inlast week's newsletter. Laken Riley should be alive today and Joe Biden bears responsibility for her death. The influx of illegals surging across the southern border since Biden took office has been an unmitigated disaster, crushing small towns and big cities across America. The bill would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to explicitly require the Department of Homeland Security to detain illegal aliens who have committed burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting. House Republicans want to make our communities safe, and we want our border secured. You might be further disappointed in knowing the Laken Riley Act is on the verge of Senate passage after a significant number of Democrats have joined with Republicans to support final passage. More good news: President Trump will sign it into law.
William D. from Goodyear shares:
I would hope that you or someone would introduce a bill to eliminate the $7500 rebate people get for buying electric cars. We who buy gas powered cars get nothing. Drill baby drill!
✍ William, as you point out, buyers of new, qualified plug-in EVs or fuel cell electric vehicles (FCV) may qualify for a credit of up to $7,500 under Internal Revenue Code Section 30D. President Trump is expected, according to Newsweek, to repeal this EV credit early into his second presidency. Why is the U.S. government picking winners and losers in our economy at all? You may be interested in knowing that in 2010 the Department of Energy gave Tesla a $465 million loan to develop a manufacturing facility in Fremont, California. Thankfully, Musk paid back the loan within three years. We could learn something from him about how to handle our national debt! Instead of stimulating the private sector by slashing burdensome regulations, our government expends taxpayer dollars to subsidize the automobile industry and then drip-feeds a sliver of those dollars back to consumers in the form of rebates like this one. This is absurd. I agree with you and President Trump: this credit needs to go.
