We are delighted to announce Eve Lyons's promotion to senior photo editor, Special Projects.
Eve's creativity, commitment to innovative visual storytelling and highly collaborative approach elevate every story she touches. During her four years as a photo editor for Projects and Initiatives, she created a visual series titled Where We Are , about young people coming of age and the spaces where they create community, and she brought us Heirlooms , in which Black photographers share their personal stories of kinship and care across generations. She also conceptualized an elevated visual playbook for a Headway series on kitchens in Los Angeles that have reflected and inspired changes in the city , and invited us to experience for ourselves why Asian American Actors Are Finally Getting Lead Romantic Roles .
In this new role, Eve will build on her exemplary work and take on expanded responsibilities toward our visual report. Working with editors on Projects & Initiatives, and partnering with desk-based visual teams and photo editors across the newsroom, Eve will shape editorial ideas into visual and multimedia story opportunities. She will help desks to create and pilot new digital experiences and story forms so they can become regular elements of our coverage.
Eve joined The Times in 2014 as a photo editor on Styles, where she produced and collaborated on an impressive array of visually driven work. She created The Look , a visual column that examines identity, community and culture . In 2019, in collaboration with Tanner Curtis and Bonnie Wertheim, Eve produced the ambitious American Road Trip project , which asked four photographers to be guided by several unique themes - patriotism , tradition , community , youth - and a unifying question: What does America look like now?
