Hendersonville Relief Fund has made an impact on those affected by Helene

When Hurricane Helene pummeled the mountains of North Carolina nearly four weeks ago with over two feet of rain, students, faculty and staff on Wingate's Hendersonville campus found themselves directly in harm's way. Luckily, none were physically hurt, but several lost their homes or other property, and they were without power and water for long stretches.

The University stepped in immediately, setting up the Hendersonville Emergency Relief Fund to help provide the essentials. And you answered the call, to the tune of $66,061 (so far!).

As of today, Wingate has distributed $44,500 to 49 students and faculty and staff members. The funding has been used to assist with food and groceries, transportation, housing, childcare, healthcare-related expenses, and other items that have helped with recovery efforts.

In addition, various groups on the Wingate campus collected donations of much-needed supplies, which have been transported to the Hendersonville campus by Wingate employees.

"You all have truly made a difference with your donations," says Meghan Melton, a second-year School of Pharmacy student. "Things won't be how they were, but these donations took a burden off so many of us."

Although the building in Hendersonville that Wingate shares with Blue Ridge Community College was relatively unharmed and classes were canceled for only a week, the recovery effort continues. There is still a substantial need among our employees and the nearly 100 pharmacy and physician assistant students studying in Hendersonville. It's not too late to give to the Hendersonville Emergency Relief Fund.

"While our Bulldog family in Hendersonville is still in the process of recovering, your support has provided much-needed relief," says Kasey Eastland, director of annual giving and advancement communications. "We are continually inspired by the strength of our community, and your continued support reflects the caring spirit that defines the Wingate family."
