County Commissioners proclaim April 6-12
as National Crime Victims' Rights Week

FREEHOLD, NJ - The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed April 6-12 as National Crime Victims' Rights Week during a workshop meeting on April 15.

"Each April, during National Crime Victims' Rights Week, law enforcement officials come together to educate the public about resources available to victims of crime," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. "In Monmouth County, the Prosecutor's Office of Victim-Witness Advocacy is committed to helping victims navigate the justice system and ensuring their rights are upheld. This office is staffed by trained advocates who work directly with victims to explain their options and connect them to essential services."

The Monmouth County Office of Victim-Witness Advocacy offers a wide range of services, including:

· Providing information about the criminal justice and juvenile justice systems

· Providing information on the status and disposition of the case to those involved

· Assisting with crisis intervention

· Providing transportation if subpoenaed to appear in court

· Providing a secure waiting area before and after court appearances

· Assisting with the return of property held in evidence, when possible

· Assisting with completing and providing a Victim Information and Impact Statement

· Accompaniment to Grand Jury, criminal proceedings, juvenile proceedings

· Providing childcare, if necessary, while a victim is called to testify

· Assisting with applications to the Victims of Crime Compensation Office (VCCO)

· Assisting in requesting restitution to be submitted to the court

· Providing employer, school and creditor letters for court attendance

· Providing counseling referrals for issues that are directly related to the crime or court appearance

· Providing referrals to social service agencies

· Assisting with registration in VINE and/or Parole to receive notification when a defendant is released from custody

· Arranging for interpreting services

· Arranging for Serological Testing
