EXHIBIT 21. Medicaid Spending by State, Eligibility Group, and Dually Eligible Status

Medicaid spending is presented by eligibility group, dually eligible status, and state.

Of the total Medicaid spending in fiscal year 2023, 15.6 percent was for children, 22.5 percent for new adult group adults, 11.7 percent for other adults, 28.9 percent for people eligible on the basis of disability, and 21.3 for people age 65 and older. Dually eligible enrollees were responsible for over $200 billion of Medicaid spending.
