The Visual Art League of Lewisville presents Art Talk with tape artist Tina Ngo, on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 7 p.m., at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
Ngo will talk about her journey as a tape artist in North Texas and demonstrate her unique materials and techniques. Attendees will participate in this unique process as well. Ngo will bring artwork to view up close along with tape art kits for purchase.
Ngo is a Dallas-based tape artist who transforms small pieces of tape into bold lines and layered textures, creating depth, movement, and perspective. A first-generation Vietnamese American, she was born and raised in Texas by immigrant parents who fled war, becoming a professional artist really wasn't an option growing up. Influenced by streetcar culture in the 90s, Tina works with custom automotive detailing tape, a material traditionally used for vehicle striping. Up close, her work reveals meticulous layers and precision; from a distance, an image emerges. For her, taping is creating structure within chaos, ultimately creating her own lines.
The Grand is Lewisville's home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.
To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with I-35E that will cause delays.
