Tatum, Northwest featured in August issue of Ingram’s business magazine

Northwest Missouri State President Dr. Lance Tatum is included among "50 Missourians You Should Know" in the latest issue of Ingram's, a Kansas City-based business magazine.

In the magazine's profile of Tatum, who began his tenure as Northwest's 11th president in 2023, he reflects on the leadership potential a high school English teacher recognized in him and how the experience shaped his interest in pursuing a career in education.

The magazine also features Northwest in a profile of the region, calling it "the standout institution" and noting the University generates nearly $618 million for the local economy and supports the equivalent of about 9,500 jobs.

Since 2011, Ingram's has annually profiled Missouri leaders in business, education, healthcare and government, among other areas. According to the magazine, "50 Missourians You Should Know is not simply about recognizing individual accomplishment. It is about understanding the people whose leadership helps define an entire state."

Now in his fourth academic year at Northwest, Tatum has overseen a $105 million capital improvement project that is nearing completion to transform and modernize the campus's energy infrastructure. Also during Tatum's tenure, Northwest has revised and implemented its compensation framework for employees and initiated a new four-year strategic plan to guide institutional priorities and decision-making through 2030.

Away from the Northwest campus, Tatum serves as vice chair of the MIAA athletics conference's CEO Council, and he is a member of the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. Additionally, he represents Northwest in the community as a member of the Maryville Host Lions Club and the Nodaway County Economic Development Board.
