Downtown road closures scheduled for essential utility upgrades

Solano County is performing neighborhood upgrades to improve local storm drains, protect County properties from local flooding, and replace old sewer pipes. Because this work involves trenching, a few roads in downtown Fairfield will face temporary closures and traffic delays over the next few weeks.

The construction will directly affect areas of Clay Street, Texas Street, and Washington Street, and traffic flow around Armijo High School.

Neighbors, commuters, and school visitors should plan around the following schedule:

  • Clay Street (South of Texas Street): Fully closed to all traffic through approximately November 30.
  • Washington Street (between Empire and Texas): Closed daily during work hours (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) from now through roughly July 17, weather permitting. Because this closure is directly in front of Armijo High School, drivers heading to the campus should expect delays or use alternate routes.
  • Texas Street (between Washington and Clay Street): Daily closures during work hours will begin July 10. From July 10 through August 15, this section will be reduced to a single lane. Flaggers will be on-site from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily to direct traffic.

Safe, accessible walkways will remain open for pedestrians near all work zones throughout the project.

Drivers are highly encouraged to give themselves extra travel time or avoid the area by using alternate routes.
