Mayor appointed to AmeriCorps Oklahoma Commission

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- Gov. Kevin Stitt has appointed Broken Arrow Mayor Debra Wimpee to the AmeriCorps Oklahoma Commission. Wimpee is one of four new commissioners chosen by the governor from across the state to serve in this capacity.

"The new commissioners bring their leadership and passion for community service through AmeriCorps in their communities," said Kathryn Gage, Commissioner Executive Director. "We are delighted to welcome them and their perspective as we advance service across Oklahoma."

AmeriCorps Oklahoma's mission is to strengthen Oklahoma's communities by engaging citizens in meaningful service to others. Its vision is to make service a cornerstone of strong and compassionate communities by providing pathways to service.

"Mayor Debra Wimpee is an entrepreneur who leads the City of Broken Arrow," the Governor's office said in a statement. "She will serve in the role of local government representative."

Wimpee has an impressive resume of volunteer service to the community that predates her time in public service. She will bring a wealth of knowledge in philanthropy and volunteerism to this new role.

"I am so excited to serve alongside my fellow Oklahomans as an Oklahoma AmeriCorps Commissioner," Mayor Wimpee said. "As a longtime proponent of community service, I am excited to have a part in engaging individuals to community-based support for programs addressing Disaster Services, Economic Opportunity, Education, Environmental Stewardship, Healthy Futures, and Veterans and Military Families. These programs benefit everyone involved!"

Wimpee will serve alongside 14 other community leaders from across the State of Oklahoma. The new commissioners most recently selected by the governor are Andrea Ellsworth, Jenks, Gladiola Briney, Guthrie, and Haydon Evon, Elgin.
