The Military Service Center will be hosting the 7th annual 22 Push Up Challenge on Thursday, Sept. 11.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the Veterans Memorial Plaza on Main Campus. The plaza is located between Memorial Field House and University Hall on Centennial Mall.
The 22 Push Up Challenge is dedicated to raising awareness about the mental health challenges faced by veterans, with an estimated 22 lives lost to suicide each day. We invite students, staff and faculty who are able to participate to complete 22 push-ups in solidarity and support for this cause.
"As a veteran, I have personally been affected by the loss of a few close friends," said Kyle Jakob, a coordinator and school certifying official in the Military Service Center. "This event is not only a way to honor their memory but also brings attention to an issue that is deeply personal to many service members and their families. Our goal is to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage those who are struggling to seek the help they deserve."
Those who cannot participate are still encouraged to attend, as a team of volunteers, student workers, and MSC staff will help carry the load of the 22 push-ups.
