LACERS COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT EFFECTIVE JULY 1

Each year, the LACERS Board of Administration reviews and approves a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for eligible LACERS retirees and beneficiaries. The COLA reflects the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Los Angeles area for the previous calendar year, which was 3.2%. Per the City of Los Angeles Administrative Code, the maximum allowable COLA is 3.0% for Tier 1 and Tier 1 Enhanced Members and 2.0% for Tier 3 Members.

For Tier 1 and Tier 1 Enhanced Members who retired on or before July 1, 2025, the excess COLA of 0.2% will be banked for use in future years.

Members who retired after July 1, 2025, will receive a prorated COLA at 1/12 of their applicable Tier COLA amount for each full month of retirement completed as of July 1, 2026. The COLA will be included in all eligible Retired Members' and beneficiaries' July 31, 2026, check or direct deposit.

View the 2026 Approved COLA chart for details on COLAs, excess COLA banks, and prorated COLA scenarios.

*Tier 1 and Tier 1 Enhanced Members are City employees who became LACERS Members on or before February 20, 2016. Tier 3 Members are City employees who became LACERS Members on or after February 21, 2016.

DON'T LET YOUR UNUSED BENEFITS FIZZLE OUT

Summer is here, and as the year moves along, now is the perfect time to make sure you're getting the most value out of your health, dental, and vision benefits, especially those with annual maximums, annual allowances, or those with other time-sensitive "use-it-or-lose-it" features that don't roll over from year to year.

Schedule your routine physical exams, preventive teeth cleanings, and routine eye exams annually. These services usually have annual allowances and are often covered at little or no cost. By staying informed, planning ahead, and taking advantage of your benefits during the designated timeframes, you can take preventive steps to stay healthy, reduce out-of-pocket health, dental, and vision costs, and avoid letting any of your unused benefits fizzle out before their annual limits.

View the LACERS 2026 Health Benefits Guide to learn more about your plan's features and services.

Please note that LACERS will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday!
