OAKLAND, Calif. - The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) Board of Directors is seeking applicants to fill the currently vacant Ward 1 Director's position. The Board of Directors is a seven-member elected policy making body, responsible for regulating the operation of East Bay public transit bus service for more than 36 million annual riders.
Any person interested in filling this vacancy must live and be registered to vote within the Ward 1 geographical boundary of the District. Ward 1 includes Albany, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Richmond, San Pablo, the unincorporated areas East Richmond Heights, Kensington, North Richmond and Rollingwood.
The individual appointed to this seat will serve until the certification of the November 2026 general district election. The successful candidate in the general election will then serve the remainder of the late Director H. E. Christian Peeples' term, ending at noon on December 1, 2028.
The person appointed to fill the vacancy on the Board is expected to participate in regular AC Transit Board meetings, occurring on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, and serve on one or more committees. Attendance at other meetings may be required.
Under the California's Political Reform Act of 1974 (Government Code section 81000, et seq.), the newly selected director must file a Statement of Economic Interest form within 30 days of assuming office and annually thereafter.
