WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) led 80 students from across Los Angeles on a personal tour of the U.S. Capitol Building during the government shutdown. Students were accompanied by teachers, and were able to explore the Capitol Rotunda, Crypt, and National Statuary Hall.
A short video of the tour can be found here.
"I was honored to lead these 80 students through our nation's Capitol in spite of the Republican government shutdown, which is driven by their refusal to address the healthcare crisis they have created. Now, more than ever, our children need to see that government should, and can, work for them," said Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30). "I have no doubt that many of them will return to D.C. as future lawmakers, activists, and scholars - we certainty need them here."
Rep. Friedman answered questions about the architecture and history of the Capitol throughout the walking tour. Additionally, students and Representative Friedman discussed their favorite areas, pieces of artwork, and statues.
