TFD Responds to Two Structure Fires on Friday Morning

January 17, 2025

On Friday, Jan. 17, at approximately 12:12 a.m., the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a structure fire on Graves Road. The call originated from a concerned neighbor who could not provide the exact location of the fire. With the help from the Consolidated Dispatch Agency, the fire's location was determined.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames coming from a two-story residential structure. Crews made entry into the residence, locating the fire in the kitchen area on the first floor. A search confirmed that all occupants had evacuated the structure. One patient was transported to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents.

Later this morning, at approximately 7:30 a.m., TFD responded to a structure fire on South Monroe Street, involving a one-story church building. Firefighters discovered flames coming from beneath the structure upon arrival. Crews acted quickly to extinguish the fire and prevent further spread. No injuries were reported.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of this fire.

At both incidents, TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County EMS and City of Tallahassee Utilities.

TFD urges all residents to remain vigilant and proactive in fire prevention measures, including the installation of smoke alarms. Remember to check your smoke alarms to make sure they are in proper working condition, as smoke alarms can provide the early warning necessary to escape a deadly fire. A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Get tips and more fire safety information at Talgov.com/Fire.
